Week 39 Day 4

Apparently, we’re not the only ones biting our teeth impatiently.  Of course, many people want to know how things are going or how we’re doing.  We are very grateful for the concern.  As you can see, we are still waiting.

We are struggling to remain patient.  But certain questions don’t make this any easier.  Questions like, “How long are ‘they’ gonna let you go?” or “are you dialated?”  “Have you tried (fill in the blank), to help things along?”  The blank being any number of things from long walks and jumping jacks to eating really spicy foods.
Again, we know everyone out there means well, but we would like a whole barrel of shhhhhh to dole out.  Not to be an ass.

Week 39 Day 3

After watching my wife the last couple of days, I think I’ve been taking some of the things I do for granted.  You know, like bending over to pick up the cell phone I just dropped.  Or putting on my makeup.
Ok, so maybe I don’t use makeup but if I did, I might see that even a simple task like putting on lipstick might be inconvenienced if a big belly is pushing me away from the counter.
One thing that makes this easier is the support from family and friends.  This necklace was given to us by my mother.  It’s a Native American pendant of an eagle symbolizing protection.

While meant for the baby, I’m actually wearing it until the imminent arrival for which we are growing more and more impatient every day.  I hope the baby and grandma Jo don’t mind that I’m wearing it for now.  Not that I need a reminder, but it keeps me thinking good thoughts throughout the day.

Week 39 Day 2

Lucy either doesn't know what to expect with the new arrival... or she knows exactly what's going to happen.
Which is to say she'll be moving down another step in the pack.  And based on the look on her face, this does not make her happy.

Week 38 Day 7

I hear that only about 5% of pregnancies end with deliveries on their actual due date.  Ours is still about a week away.
This is going to be a very long week.

Week 38 Day 6

Ta Da!

In these last weeks, my wife gets to enjoy "false" labor known as Braxton Hicks contractions.  I can even tell when they're happening because her entire abdomen becomes much more rigid.  Go figure.  The muscles CONTRACT and it feels more dense.  Duh.  Sometimes I surprise even myself with my Holmesian powers of deduction.
Anyway, my wife has taken to calling the baby "triangle baby" during these occurrences due to the fact that as the muscles contract around the baby, they take shape of whatever configuration the baby is in.  Which most of the time resembles a triangle.  Again with my superior powers of deduction!
Hopefully, calling the baby a triangle won't come back to bite us in the rear.

Week 38 Day 5

Happy New Years everybody!  The henna faded a little more than I'd hoped.  But it still looks pretty cool.
As you can see in the photo, the child has contours.  The little one is still quite active and continues to make our  lives more interesting.  2012 is going to be a great, sleepless year.  Cheers!
